Jason pulled his bike to a stop and made his way up to Vista Point. With every step he took, Sonny's words kept playing over and over in his head
"Your nothing but a common criminal"
It sounded harsher every time
"Your NOTHING.......but a COMMON CRIMINAL"
Jason slowed his steps when he reached the stair case leading down to the sitting benches at Vista Point. He grabbed a fist full of his hair and let out a primal growl that could wake the dead
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" Jason finished, letting his hair go and slapping his fist repeatedly into the stair case's wooded rails
Elizabeth stood up from the bench where she had been sitting for the past hour, just out of Jason's sight.
"Jason" Elizabeth let out on a faint breath. Jason was in a fit of range and Elizabeth was cautious to approach him. It wasn't like they were on the best of terms but she had to help. Jason didn't even see her stand up or hear her whisper his name. His onslaught on the surroundings seemly just started. With every step he started to take he let out a string of curses, kicking the bushes, pounding his fists into the rails...
"I lied to HER, hurt HER, walked away from HER for your sorry ass.......AND FOR WHAT...........FOR THIS................AHHHHHHHHHHHHH................fuck YOU...................." Jason finished out of breath as he reached the base platform, his back facing Elizabeth
Elizabeth sighed. "Something must have happened with Sonny over Courtney" she thought to her self as she slowing made her way up behind Jason and extended her arm to touch his shoulder
The minute Jason felt the touch on his shoulder, he violently snatched it away has he began to whirl around. Elizabeth was caught off guard, causing her to fall flat on her rear, staring up at Jason
"God, Elizabeth" Jason huffed, bending down to help her up "I didn't know it was you. I'm sorry" he said, bring Elizabeth to her feet "Are you OK?"
"Yeah, I'll have a nice bruise on I disagree tomorrow though" Elizabeth smiled while she thought to her self "not like I have to worry about anyone seeing I disagree to notice it"
"You're not OK though, what happened?" Elizabeth asked
"It's nothing" Jason growled low, anger back in place now that he knew Elizabeth was OK
"Oh, nothing, OK, so that's why your attacking the stairs and bushes. They must have pissed you off right?" Elizabeth pressed
"I thought you didn't care anymore? Isn't that what you said? I didn't have to keep you updated on the events in my life. You told me to go to hell...well, I'm there....I've been there for a while....just didn't know it" Jason bit off with an anger laced voice. Elizabeth was taken back by her words. It was one thing to say them but to hear Jason repeat them, was almost like someone stabbing her in the heart.
Elizabeth just looked at Jason for a minute, his sexy blue eyes, the color of steel now. He suddenly dropped his head and made his way past Elizabeth to sit on the bench, she had been sitting at earlier. Elizabeth followed him and sat beside him
"I heard what you said coming down the steps. I know something happened between you and Sonny over Courtney" Elizabeth said softly, trying to get the courage up to put her hand on his knee or shoulder. Finally deciding that since the first attempt with the shoulder bombed, she'd go for the knee this time. Once she touched Jason, he turned to face her
"Yeah, something happened" Jason said, lowering his head back towards the ground, folding his hands in his lap
"Tell me about it. I'm a good listener" Elizabeth smiled as she remembered the time she had called Jason a good listener
"It doesn't matter" Jason was quick to answer
"If you're hurting, it matters to me" Elizabeth said softly
Jason let out a lond slow breath. "I've made so many sacrifice for Sonny, was there for him when he needed help with his family and business. Hell, I thought I was family but come to find out, I'm just a common criminal" the last words left a bitter taste in Jason's mouth
"Screw Sonny!" Elizabeth cut in, causing Jason to curve his lips to almost form a smile
"It doesn't matter what Sonny thinks of me. It's just the fact that I let my life revolve around him, and it cost me everything in the end" Jason said, racking his hands thru his hair.
"Courtney walked away too?" Elizabeth asked, not really wanting to discuss Jason's love life but Jason needed a friend right now and she was doing her best
Jason looked up at her, her eyes, so beautiful, they always called out to him. If he could just tell her that he wasn't talking or thinking about Courtney. "No, I walked away from her"
Elizabeth was surprised. She didn't know if she could comfort Jason if his heart was breaking over another woman. "You walked away because of Sonny?" It was a statement but was more of a question
"No...I mean yes...but.." Jason stood and took a couple of steps forward and looked up at the stars. "I should have never been with Courtney to begin with"
"Because she is Sonny's sister?" Elizabeth asked, assuming that was the only possible answer
"No...because she wasn't you. She was just a band aid. She hid the hurt. Made me feel wanted. Told me what I wanted to hear. Guess I'm no better than AJ. I love her, but not in the same way I love..." Jason stopped himself. It didn't matter how he felt about Elizabeth, he just had to keep telling himself that.
Elizabeth was in shock. She couldn't move. She didn't know what to say. Had Jason just said what she thought he said. He was only with Courtney because he thought he couldn't be with her. Courtney was just a substitute, he didn't love her like he loved...Elizabeth was brought out of her thoughts by the sound of Jason's boots starting to walk away
"I gotta go" Jason said, heading towards the steps. Elizabeth jumped up and took a couple of steps towards him
"Do you ever think about what might have been?" Elizabeth blurted out, on the verge of tears before she remembered that Jason didn't do that kinda of stuff
"Sorry, I forgot you don't think about the could have happened or what might have happened" Elizabeth quickly wiped her eyes as the tears began to fall. Jason turned around and just stared at Elizabeth, slowly making his way to stand in front of her
"Just every night since you left" Jason confessed, bringing his thumb up to wipe her cheek "I image that you understood. That you were happy it was finally over and that we could start building our relationship. I image you hugging me, kissing me, telling me you were glad I was safe and home. I image taking you upstairs and..." Jason stopped himself when Elizabeth let out a soft chuckle thru her sobs
"Don't stop there" Elizabeth whispered, bringing her hand up to wrap around Jason's wrist, while his thumb continued to stroke her cheek
"and...and...telling you how much you meant to me and then showing you...all night long" Jason finished, dropping his thumb to Elizabeth's lips
"Oh My God, Jason...you weren't talking about Courtney when you were coming down the stairs....were you?" Elizabeth said, her voice hopeful
"No...I was talking about you" Jason said has he slowly captured her lips in the most romantic kiss Elizabeth had ever felt. The kiss seemed endless but finally they broke, the need for air to strong to resist
"You know....what might have been....can still be" Jason smiled
"If you're willing to try" Elizabeth smiled
"This time around, yeah, I can try!" Jason said, lowering his lips to capture Elizabeth's once more
THE END
